Belle of the Beach

No one understands the quirky yet cool combinations that rule L.A. fashion better than Satine owner Jeannie Lee.

Jeannie Lee at Satine boutique on 3rd Street

Her boutiques—with locations already on 3rd Street in West Hollywood and on Abbot Kinney—are the well-known stomping grounds of Angelenos looking for effortless style. Lee carries staples from the runways of Valentino and Isabel Marant alongside beloved local brands like JilRo and Korovilas. Now, this former attorney is granting fashion wishes in Manhattan Beach with a temporary pop-up shop open through July 31. “There’s nobody really doing high fashion [in Manhattan Beach]. There are really stylish, beautiful women walking around. They shop somewhere,” says the Hancock Park resident, who now splits her time between the three locations. True to her whimsical aesthetic, Lee designed the pop-up after the croquet scene in the 1988 cult flick Heathers, her favorite film, with AstroTurf flooring and lots of wallpaper. “It’s kind of country club—but hipster, cool country club,” she explains. Next March, following renovations, she’ll reopen with a full-fledged boutique in the same location. That may sound far off, but for now, Lee is soaking up the new space and the unrivaled views: “I hit a point where I drive up a hill and see the ocean, and it’s just ‘boom!’ That’s the best part of my day, besides saying namaste.” 1141 Highland Ave., Manhattan Beach, 310.545.7114, satineboutique.‌com
