Many say fine art is on the rise in Los Angeles. Judging by this photo, we’d say they’re correct, in more ways than one.

Grand Avenue, Downtown

Construction crews are working tirelessly on what will soon be The Broad, a 120,000-square-foot artistic epicenter befitting Eli and Edythe Broad’s philanthropic vision—one that includes a $140 million price tag and the couple’s own 2,000-piece collection. Though the official reveal remains slated for late next year, photographer Ryan Miller got a sneak peek at the site, including its intricate skylight installation, seen here. “The ceiling of the main gallery at The Broad has a transcendent effect as you enter the space,” he says. I was transfixed by the huge open area.” And like the rays that will shine down into the museum, Angelenos are glowing after The Broad recently trumpeted plans for complimentary admission. Until then, the Grand Avenue space is but a work in progress, though we have no qualms about its eventual masterpiece status. Turn to page 110 for more information on The Broad.
