Allison Williams & Ryan McClure

When Allison Williams joined an online dating site in October 2011, she never suspected she’d marry the first person she met. But her date with Ryan McClure proved to be her first—and only—online meetup. Ryan had joined the same site at the urging of his sisters, both of whom met their husbands on it. He proposed two years later, presenting Allison with a stunning diamond ring, an heirloom from her great-aunt.
It was the groom’s grandfather who suggested the Union League Club, where he is a longtime member, as their venue. “Ryan has great memories of going there as a child, and it’s also where our families first met,” says Allison. Upon falling in love with the elegant space, which fit the bride’s vision of a formal, old Hollywood setting, the couple booked the one available date, though this left only eight months before the big day.
In spite of the time crunch and some last-minute vendor changes, they managed to pull off a stunning, memorable celebration. The couple worked together to incorporate personalized touches—Ryan created the rehearsal-dinner invites, while Allison handwrote the escort cards and assembled the centerpieces using gold antiques borrowed from her grandmother.
A crowd of 105 friends and family members watched the moving ceremony, during which the couple recited their own vows and tied a knot to physically symbolize their union. The ensuing celebration was filled with lighthearted fun. The newlyweds entered to the Harry Potter theme song (Allison is a big fan), and guests enjoyed cotton candy and glow sticks while dancing through the night. “It was my favorite thing,” recollects Allison. “We had a dance party in a completely formal setting. It totally captured our personality.”
WHAT WE'VE LEARNED
“When something goes wrong, you don’t blame each other. You deal with the stress as a team,” says Allison.
