A movie beneath the stars should be on everyone’s summer must-do list. We’ve rounded up five outdoor options that offer everything from superheroes to classic cinema.
Set on a swath of grass between the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol Building, DC’s most popular outdoor film series, Screen on the Green, returned this week for four weeks of vintage fare. Next week’s Monday movie is Norma Rae, followed by Willa Wonka & The Chocolate Factory and Tootsie in August. hbo.com/screenonthegreen
Mosaic District kicked off its inaugural Films in the Park series this summer with a Take Me Out to the Ballgame theme. It concludes this Friday with a 7pm showing of A League of Their Own. On its heels are four movies in August featuring Hollywood’s leading men, including Brad Pitt in Meet Joe Black on Aug. 2. mosaicdistrict.com
To The Rescue!
The burgeoning Capitol Riverfront takes advantage of its Anacostia riverfront real estate with a summer cinema lineup featuring DC versus Marvel Comics. Cheer on your favorite superheroes on Thursday evenings in films like The Dark Knight (showing tonight), The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises. capitolriverfront.org
DC Drive In
The drive-in movie gets a revival this summer at Union Market. Settle into your car and watch a DC-centric film on Union Market’s three-story wall. With just two dates left, including this Friday’s showing of The American President, be sure and make a reservation for this throwback summer experience. unionmarketdc.com
Some Like It Hot
The Heurich House, otherwise known as The Brewmaster’s Castle, opens its gardens for an evening showing of Some Like It Hot this Friday. Bring a picnic and cool off with the classic movie and a bottle of chilled wine. heurichhouse.org
