Longtime local TV star Deborah Duncan invited pal Diane Schuur to join her onstage at the Hobby Center for an evening of songs and stand-up comedy. Alicia Smith, Stephanie Perkins and Jenee Stefanakis chaired the event, all in the name of the Mission of Yahweh homeless shelter.
At the cocktail reception, A-listers like Javier and Lucinda Loya, Mary Ann and David McKeithan, and Betty and Jess Tutor mingled in the lobby before showtime. As the curtain rose, Duncan made her debut as a comedienne, and, later, Schuur, accompanied by the great Richard Brown Orchestra, serenaded with tunes including an a capella rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
Masters of Ceremonies Lester and Sue Smith did their job moving things along—and moved it onstage too! They danced to their theme song, “I Will Survive.” The evening raised more than $120,000 for the Mission of Yahweh.
