Stroll an artful intersection in the Heights.
The top of a church steeple surfaces in the middle of Heights Boulevard, part of co-curator Gus Kopriva’s multi-element True North installation. The piece, Dan Havel’s “Bird Sanctuary,” stationed between Fourth and Fifth streets along the esplanade, doubles as a bird feeder and will be on view with seven other installments from local artists through Nov. 4. Moments before rain started pouring down, photographer Debora Smail snapped the photo. “I’m personally drawn to recycled and repurposed art,” says Smail, a full-time photographer who frequently shoots restaurants and food. Art lovers can also see Dean Ruck’s hourglass-shaped statue made up of 150 mirrors, and Paul Kittleson’s oversized lawn chairs as part of the series.
