The “We Love Houston” sign stands tall over the freeway on a dramatically cloudy day in H-Town, having been moved from its original Heights location in July to be more visible to passersby.

“I’ve driven by this sign hundreds of times, and each time I’ve told myself, ‘I need to shoot that thing,’” says Randy Pugh, a sometime-photographer who notes the challenge of getting the shot. “I did feel like I was going to get hit when I took some shots from the median between the I-10 off-ramp and the feeder road,” says Pugh, a senior web coordinator for the United Way. The technicolor sculpture was designed by artist David Adickes, also famous for having carved enormous busts of all of the U.S. presidents.
