March of Dimes threw a moving luncheon to help end premature birth.
Families affected by premature births came together with altruists and Hollywood heavyweights for March of Dimes’ sixth annual Celebration of Babies luncheon. Held at the Beverly Wilshire, Beverly Hills (A Four Seasons Hotel), the fete raised an impressive $1.4 million in support of the organization’s mission to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
Following a buzzy cocktail reception, guests like Elizabeth Banks and Derek Hough were treated to a gourmet lunch of a winter squash salad; roasted Chilean sea bass; and a chocolate pot de crème with a goat cheese semifreddo for dessert.
Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Hudson, who was honored with the 2016 March of Dimes Grace Kelly Award, touched the crowd with a moving speech: “I’m so grateful for this opportunity because it has taught me about premature birth. It’s so easy to overlook what others are going through. … What better way to invest in the future than in babies.” -Meg McGuire
