Even jet-lagged and tired as he was, Fawaz Gruosi was still a perfect gentleman and host at the recent private dinner for de Grisogono, the Geneva-based jewelry house he created 20 years ago, which is credited with giving the world black diamonds. Together with Ugo and Sara Colombo, Gruosi held a private dinner party for 250 at the Colombos’ spectacular Miami Beach residence. The reason? Yet another celebration for the de Grisogono boutique at Bal Harbour Shops, which opened at the retail center back in spring of 2013. “I had some coffee,” said Gruosi when asked how he was holding up in Miami time. “I will have a cigarette and be fine.”
Deco Drive host Louis Aguirre put it best when he described the evening as “the official start of season. Everyone’s here!” Indeed, everyone was. Making the rounds, catching up and sipping Champagne were Iran Issa-Khan, Tui Pranich, Walid and Susie Wahab, Michael Capponi, Manny Machado, Lady Monica Heftler, Donald and Lola Jacobson, Anthony Kennedy Shriver and Nicola Siervo. Such stellar turnout proved that good planning does work—even in last-minute Miami—and was a testament to the Save-the-Date notices that went out for the event more than a month in advance.
After tight security at the door and a busy step-and-repeat, guests entered the party through the home’s bayside courtyard. A few steps away, they encountered a spectacular presentation of de Grisogono’s 20th Anniversary High Jewellery Collection in an intricate, museum-like arrangement of rotating vitrines that showed off the sparkling rings, necklaces, bracelets and other carat treasures as if styled for a magazine photo shoot.
As 10 o’clock neared, guests moved to the two massive tables set up near the pool for dinner catered by Casa Tua. When dessert and coffee were served, the Goldsingers, a group of dancers and singers, began to perform on the steps of the residence’s terrace, much to the delight of the crowd. On their way out the door, guests were handed a number of de Grisogono keys, one of which opens a vitrine at the de Grisogono boutique housing a dG creation handpicked by Gruosi himself. As of press time, the winner of said prize was mum. –Photography by Alexia Fodere & World Red Eye
