They may be eras and ideologies apart, but what united five living U.S. presidents (the elder President Bush is not pictured) on a cloudless day in April was a celebration—both of the opening of the George W. Bush Presidential Center and the rare brotherhood of sitting behind the desk at the Oval Office.

Photographer Paul Morse of Washington, D.C., was waiting for the right moment, which came just before the presidents were called up onstage. “I had a feeling something like this moment would happen so I positioned myself where they would all be looking forward and just waited a few moments. President Clinton reached over to tell President Bush something and all four broke into laughter.”
