Rockin’ Republik
THE PARTY Honolulu nightlife regulars and industry aficionados made for a full house at the much-anticipated opening of The Republik in the space formerly held by the O Lounge. The packed party made for a hot introduction to the city’s first concert venue since the closing of Pipeline Cafe in 2011. THE HIGHLIGHTS Armed with chill tunes, DJ Soundcheck set a properly hip vibe that easily accented the artsy interior in The Safehouse, The Republik’s modern lounge. While enjoying the luscious custom cocktails, guests soaked in the loft-style atmosphere: larger-than-life portraits, modernist chandeliers hanging from a deconstructed ceiling, and black and white furniture. But the climax came when the massive concert space was unveiled, kicking off a night of live performances. THE PLAYERS Owners Chip Jewitt (formerly of Apartm3nt), Matty Hazelgrove, Philip Pendleton and Aubry Boutin; General Manager Robert Ramsey; nightlife staples Christa Wittmier, Flash Hansen, Derin Derego and Molly Watanabe; designer Matt Bruening; chef Keli‘i Heen.
