Right place, right time—that’s the theme for Caroline Klock and Brad Biegler’s romance. Although they first met in 2007 as students at Saint Louis University, it wasn’t until 2012, when they ran into each other at a music festival in their new city of Chicago, that they decided to go on a date. Three years later, Brad surprised Caroline with a question… and a ring. “I thought it was just another wine and cheese night at our special place, 694 Wine & Spirits. Little did I know Brad was going to propose!” she says. He popped the question with a stunning oval Tacori engagement ring from James & Sons.

Knowing they wanted a fall wedding in the city, Caroline and Brad immediately started searching for venues. Unfortunately, all of their favorite spots were already booked. “I started to panic that we might have to wait another year [for our wedding], when St. James Chapel called saying there was a cancellation for September 24,” she says. As luck would have it, they received the same news from the Peninsula Hotel just hours later. “We could not believe our luck to suddenly have our top ceremony and venue locations available! At that point we realized it was fate, so we popped open a bottle of Champagne to celebrate that we’d officially set the date.”

Ten months later, the couple exchanged I do’s at St. James, followed by an elegant reception at the Peninsula Hotel. “When I first walked into the room, I was blown away,” Caroline says of the soft-hued decor created by Marina Birch and her team. The couple’s cocktail hour featured a Spanish guitarist and Pisco Sours, a nod to Caroline’s Peruvian heritage. And guests enjoyed snapping selfies in front of a live flower wall by HMR Designs, as well as creating sweet treats at a do-it-yourself doughnut station. The evening proved to be another case of being in the right place at the right time—and on a wedding date chosen by fate. “It felt surreal,” she says.
