A young American Indian couple combine colorful Hindu traditions and modern glamour at Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa.
When Binny Patel and Jason Doshi started planning their wedding, the first-generation American Indians knew they wanted to hold tightly to their Hindu traditions while blending in their own modern-day touches. The result was a lavish destination wedding at the luxe Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa, bursting with dazzling colors, meaningful customs and unconventional surprises that would outdo any Bollywood movie.
The couple’s June wedding lasted for three days (Hindu tradition often calls for five) and kicked off with a lively Sangeet, a traditional Indian music night. Jennifer J Events transformed the Eau’s Grand Ballroom into a colorful wonderland filled with cabanas and furniture decked out in vibrant shades of green, pink and purple. Binny and Jason shined brightly in their eye-catching garments as they danced and sang with their family and friends.
On the couple’s actual wedding day, they introduced a surprise twist in tradition. While Hindu custom usually involves the groom arriving on a horse or elephant, Jason and his groomsmen made a South Florida-style entrance to the hotel on Jet Skis. The groom was welcomed by Binny’s family, who danced down the boardwalk as the bride watched from a nearby balcony. “I felt like a princess,” recalls Binny, who later made her own fairy-tale arrival, carried down the aisle on a doli. “Seeing all of the excitement—it was one of the happiest moments of my life.” The bride wore a gorgeous Indian dress that she designed in modern-day colors of mint green, ivory and coral to complement the hotel’s ocean backdrop, and a stunning pair of Christian Louboutin heels that Jason left in her dressing room as a surprise gift.
Binny and Jason were married in a meaningful two-hour Hindu ceremony in a cabana perched above the resort’s adults-only pool, surrounded by mint drapery adorned with coral peonies and blush roses by EC Floral Design & Events. The ceremony ended just as the sun was setting, which offered a magical and touching moment as Binny was officially given away by her family. The couple’s nuptials were followed by an outdoor dinner and an afterparty that lasted until the wee hours of the morning. For the more than 230 guests in attendance, it was a party that just kept going.
The following evening, Binny and Jason reveled in their newly married status at an over-the-top reception at the stately Flagler Museum, where tables were dressed to impress in ivory and champagne colors with sky-high centerpieces of hydrangeas, roses and orchids created by Dalsimer Atlas. Guests dined on authentic Indian food from Tabla Restaurant and indulged in a towering buttercream cake by Earth and Sugar.
After their three-day extravaganza, the couple jetted off to Athens and the Greek islands of Mykonos and Santorini for a honeymoon they will always remember. “Our wedding weekend was just so perfect,” says Binny. “From start to finish, it will be ingrained in our memories forever.”
