The Hit List: Pack It In!

Back in the early 1900s, the Anaheim Packing District (anaheimpackingdistrict.com) served as the nerve center for Orange County’s citrus-growing industry. A century later, it’s on the verge of becoming a hub of another kind—a North County destination for foodies. Among its most notable newbies: Adya, the new concept by chef Shachi Mehra of Tamarind fame. Here’s our top five list of what else is in its future.
1. The Blind Rabbit
It’s only fitting that a building of the Packing House’s era be home to a speakeasy-themed bar and restaurant. Here, you’ll find gourmet bites (we love the pork belly) and specialty cocktails (of course) served in a space that boasts a 1920s vibe.
We’ve been fans of Ecco ever since it opened at The Camp in Costa Mesa. We’re glad our North County friends can share in our delight in the menu of gourmet artisan pizzas (for a real treat, try the Guanciale) and authentic entrees from the wood-fired grill.
3. The Iron Press
Why use bread when you can make a sandwich with waffles? And The Iron Press serves up a plethora of treats. Our fave? The buttermilk fried chicken waffle sammie with jalapeño maple syrup.
4. The Kroft
Here, you’ll find comfort food at its finest—hearty sandwiches (including a prime rib dip), poutines and soups (like creamy tomato bisque), French-Canadian style specialty fries (with truffles and Parm, too), and beverages made from scratch.
5. Lemon Drop
Jenny Ross first enticed us with her raw foods restaurant 118 Degrees, and soon she’ll be tantalizing our taste buds in liquid form—with a new juice bar.
