The Hit List: Party Animals!

From monkeys to ponies to parties by the pool, here’s where you need to be and what you have to see in the coming days.

“Elephant Parade”

1. Herd Mentality
The Elephant Parade exhibit has marched through London, Singapore and Milan, and it stops in O.C. Aug. 23. The open-air show presents colorful, life-size sculptures of the creature in an effort to raise awareness of the animal. And it’s doing just that—artists and supporters include Isaac Mizrahi and Diane von Furstenberg. Throughout Dana Point,

2. Go Wild
San Diego may have a monopoly on SoCal’s animal attractions, but we go critter happy for O.C.’s Santa Ana Zoo. On Aug. 24, support the animal park during the annual Zoofari affair. The evening event lets guests roam the park after hours while sipping Champagne and nibbling gourmet fare. Santa Ana Zoo, 1801 E. Chestnut Ave., Santa Ana, 714.836.4000,

3. Country Boys
Don your best 10-gallon hat, break out the spurs and wrangle the family for Mission Viejo’s annual Rancho Rodeo, Aug. 24-25. The weekend event includes steer wrestling, and bull, bronc and team riding with, of course, pro cowboys. And they know how to tame those wild beasts. Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park, 30753 La Pata Road, San Juan Capistrano,

4. Music to Our Ears
Warm nights invite music fans to sit under the stars and enjoy the tunes of Dana Point’s Summer Concerts in the Park. For 20 years, the coastal city has featured local rockers and cover bands alike, and the shows always pack a crowd. Grab a blanket, a picnic, and enjoy the sounds every Sunday through Aug. 25, beginning at 3pm. Lantern Bay Park, 25111 Park Lantern Road, Dana Point,

5. Island Hopping
Every weekend through Sept. 7, you can find us at the Sunday Island Pool Party series beginning at 1pm. Here, we always enjoy tunes from SoCal’s finest DJs, drinks and eats, and—our favorite—20-minute pedicures complete with mini foot massages and polish changes. Chic!
