Chic Peek

Salt Lake City's loss was San Diego's gain when interior designer Cachel Rupp recently resettled in North County with her Coveted Quarters Interior Design.

Cachel Rupp at home in Del Mar with her custom 'queen chair'.

A Coronado home she recently designed for a client. She opened up the 1960s house with glass sliders and "gave it some semi-bachelor-pad sass."

The smoldering-hot 27-year-old has just finished two projects: an indoor-outdoor mod Coronado manse and her own Del Mar home, decked out with an LED-lit pool and large-scale art. "Scale is an integral part of design. I like to say, 'Go big or go home,'" says Rupp. "No rinky-dink around here."

Obsessed With...
I am loving crazy oversized sculptures—not as in naked 'David' large, but decent-sized. And I love my crocodile skull. He's a museum replica with a chrome jawbreaker in his mouth. He makes any room feel badass.

Art Attack
Danny O'Connor (aka DOC), out of the U.K., is an artist I found in my late-night Googling. He creates hyperstylized and abstract works. One of his paintings can be seen printed on fabric on the back of my 'queen chair.'

Local Source
Solo on Cedros in Solana Beach. I love the coffee-table books and they have the most insane hand-picked midcentury items. I never leave empty-handed. And Floral Trade Center in Carlsbad. It's every designer's Disneyland.

Ideal S.D. Weekend
We are Del Martians! We don't often leave the bubble but we like Poseidon for Bloody Marys and fish 'n' chips, and Shimbashi in Del Mar Plaza.

You Knew You Loved Design...
When I realized it didn't require nine math classes to get a degree. Ha! Like most spunky little girls in my field probably did, I rearranged and redecorated my bedroom a lot.
