The James Beard Awards are like the Oscars for the food world. It's a big deal to win, and it's a big deal just to be nominated. The James Beard Foundation just released its long list of semifinalists, which will be winnowed down to the finalists next month. It's no surprise that the Bay Area is well represented among the nation's food luminaries. (We are the best town in which to eat, after all.) 

What is cool, though, is how many of the nominees have been covered in San Francisco magazine. It's almost as if the award judges just took a list of our food reviewer Josh Sens's reservations, and went from there. Don't believe us?
