Just who is the accused thief, Marin teen Max Wade?
UPDATE 10/30: After deliberation, the jury found Wade guilty on all charges, including stealing Fieri's car and of attempted murder for the unrelated drive-by shooting. The case now goes now to sentencing, which is scheduled for December 16th.
After a dramatic day in court, capped by the appearance of celebrity chef Guy Fieri, the fate of accused Marin teenager Max Wade, 19, now rests with a jury. Wade is accused of charges relating to the theft of Fieri's car from a San Francisco auto dealership as well as two counts of attempted murder, stemming from a separate incident in which a gunman shot at a two North Bay teens.
Yesterday, Fieri (him of the Donkey Sauce) testified that he had not given Wade permission to borrow his yellow Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, which was stolen in 2011 by a thief who rappelled through a window into the dealership on Van Ness using an elaborate system of ropes. Soon after, a masked motorcyclist shot at the Mill Valley girl, whom Wade had been pursuing, and her boyfriend as they sat in a truck in front of his Mill Valley home.
The prosecution offered witness testimony, as well as surveillance photos from the Golden Gate Bridge and gas stations, while the defense pointed to a lack of DNA evidence.
If Wades's Hollywood-ready crime saga sounds familiar, that's because we profiled him in our March issue. In that issue, Chris Roberts delved in Wade's history of petty crime, his relationship to the victims, and much more.
