Ice Cream Sandwiches Are So Hot Right Now

The best cool treats to wrap up summer.
Sure, the It’s-It has been a San Francisco staple forever, but the ice cream sandwich of the moment is everywhere but in the freezer case:
Post-ramen: The Ramen Shop wedges “not too sweet” black sesame ice cream between two brown sugar butter cookies that maintain their chewy-crispy essence to the last bite. 5812 College Ave. (at Oak Grove Ave.), Oakland, 510-788-6370
With tapas: Coqueta’s loosely interpreted “ice cream sandwich” features two-bite slices of grilled chocolate bread cradling olive oil ice cream, a drizzle of grassy Spanish olive oil, and fleur de sel. Pier 5 (at the Embarcadero) 415-704-8866
From a food truck: Garden Creamery reinvents the It’s-It with creamy vanilla semifreddo wedged between oatmeal cookies. The whole shebang is dipped in 60 percent chocolate and sold from the Garden Creamery truck at SoMa Streat Food Park and other locations.
At an ice cream shop: Three Twins offers two ice cream sandwiches: sea salted caramel between sugar cookies and vanilla bean between chewy chocolate chip cookies. They’re available by the piece or in a four-pack.
