Everyone else will be at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass this weekend, so why not have the rest of the city to yourself?
North Beach First Fridays
What: Art walk showcasing some of North Beach's best galleries and museums.
Where: North Beach, Grant and Vallejo
When: Friday, 6 p.m to 9 p.m.
Why: Because you'd rather be a beatnik with a bongo than a hillbilly with a banjo.
"Off the Grid" Friday Night Food Truck Party
What: 32 food trucks, four bars, and live bands playing.
Where: Fort Mason, Marina and Buchanan
When: Friday, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Why: Because Frat Mason doesn't fly at Hellman Hollow.
"HeART of Market" Outdoor Dance Festival 2013
What: Dozens of dance performances including styles such as Bollywood, Jazz, and Fusion
Where: Mint Plaza, 14 Mint Plaza
When: Saturday, 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Why: Because there sure as hell won't be any dance of this quality at Hardly Strictly.
SPCA 145th Anniversary Carnival Block Party
What: Huge party celebrating pets and the SPCA's 145th birthday.
Where: SPCA SF, 201 Alabama Street
When: Saturday, all day
Why: Because Wilco already adopted Billy Bragg, you might as well get a dog instead of an English punk.
2013 Castro Street Fair
What: One of the biggest and most fabulous costume parties ever.
Where: Castro and Markey
When: Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Why: Because the vivid costumes will be a welcome contrast to the mellow good times at Golden Gate Park.
