Mandatory Weekend

There's something for everyone here, from bacon and beer openings to science fiction movies.

26th Annual Oakland Chinatown Streetfest
What: Ten blocks of arts and crafts, food, entertainment, and more.
Where: Oakland Chinatown
When: August 24-25 from 10 am to 5:30 pm
Cost: FREE
Why: Because you haven't seen enough dragons in SF's Chinatown.

“Open Canvas” Living Mural Project
What: The whole street will be transformed into living works of art.
Where: Divisadero Street (between Hayes and Grove)
When: 1-6 pm on Saturday, August 24, 2013.
Cost: FREE
Why:
Because you're relieved that the event is being sponsored by a vodka company other than Stoli.

Screening of Doctor Who: The Movie
What: The Doctor and his arch-nemesis, The Master, battle it out in 1999's San Francisco.
Where: 582 Market St.
When: 5 pm on Saturday, August 24, 2013.
Cost: $5 (FREE POPCORN)
Why:
Because after the not-so-great recent Star Trek movie, you need a sci-fi franchise to hold you over until the new Star Wars.

Bacon and Beer Festival
What: Bay Area restaurants will be offering bacon-based dishes paired with beer.
Where: The Fairmont (950 Mason St)
When: 2:30-5 pm on Sunday, August 25th

Why:
If need to know why to go, please consult the title of the event again.
