Drive-in movie festivals, summer jazz concerts, and strawberry festivals abound.

 

2014 Ohtani Summer Bazaar
What: Enjoy this festival's array of Japanese food, including chicken teriyaki, sushi, curry rice, kushi-katsu (panko breaded beef skewers), mochi and udon. Peruse the crafts for sale, partake in the silent auction, enter the raffle and let the kids delight in all kinds of games.

Why: By now you've gotten tired of the same old burgers n' beer American festivals. This is the perfect antidote.

Classic SF Film Day: “The House on Telegraph Hill” | Main Library
What: Ever wondered what Telegraph Hill looked like in the '50s? Experience a black-and-white version of San Francisco at the screening of 1951 classic "The House on Telegraph Hill." This weekly library film festival shows movies set in and/or filmed in our very own backyard.
Where: San Francisco Main Library, Koret Auditorium, 100 Larkin Street

Cost: FREE
Why: A San Francisco film noir… it doesn't get much better than that.

SFJAZZ Summer Jazz 2014: Free Outdoor Concerts | Stanford
What: The Stanford Shopping Center offers a weekly jazz concert that's as soulful as it is relaxing. This week's performance by the Tiffany Austin Quintet, which features a jazz vocalist who fuses elements of blues, swing, soul, hip-hop, and contemporary music, is sure to tug at the heartstrings.

Why: Outdoor jazz, Palo Alto, and lawn chairs--a recipe for success.

Doggy Yappy Hour: Free Sweets & Dog Treats | SF
What: This event is for all you dog lovers out there who wish you could bring your pooch to happy hour. Enjoy free refreshments and sweets while your pup scarfs down some complimentary carob treats.

When: Thursdays from 6-7pm

Why: Now you can be social and never have to leave your dog's side.

Rooftop Garden Concert
What: Who knew there was a three-acre roof garden at Oakland’s Kaiser Center?! Pack a picnic and head over to the Kaiser Center's free concert series, where this week the William Robert Trio will croon your lunch hour away.

When: Friday, July 25, 12-1pm
Cost: FREE
Why: Sure beats eating a boring sandwich at your desk.

20th Annual Brainwash Drive-In Movie Festival | Oakland
What: True to Oakland fashion, this drive-in, bike-in or walk-in movie festival presents a wacky array of (mostly short) films. Pull up a chair (or sit on the hood of your car) at one of Oakland’s biggest industrial arts spaces and watch the movies projected on a huge screen. Food vendors and MC hosts complete the event.
Where: NIMBY, 8410 Amelia St, Oakland
When: Friday and Saturday, July 25-26, 9pm
Cost: $12/person
Why: Drive-in movies are few and far between, so don't miss out on this one.

20th Annual Watsonville Strawberry Festival
What: Calling all strawberry fanatics! This two day festival in downtown Watsonville showcases fresh local strawberries. With delicious food, live entertainment, a carnival, strawberry treats, and contests, this event is sure to sweeten the whole family.
Where: Ramsay Park, 1255 Main St., Watsonville, CA
When: Saturday and Sunday, August 2-3, 10am-7pm
Cost: FREE
Why: A whole festival devoted to strawberries—now that's sweet.
