The Looker: Where to Shop, Stock-up, and Socialize This Weekend

We braved the opening-day crowds at Uniqlo and CityTarget, so you don't have to.
It's been a big month for San Francisco's shopping scene, particularly with the buzzy arrival of chains Uniqlo and Target. After a two month pop-up this summer, Uniqlo finally flung open the doors to its 29,000-square-foot San Francisco flagship on Friday, the brand's first West Coast outpost. The three-level store is a show in itself, decked with 91 spinning mannequins, an LED-lit rainbow-hued staircase, 77 LCD screens, and trippy new Magic Mirror technology: a "virtual dressing room" that allows shoppers to flip between colors of various Uniqlo clothing items with an iPhone-like swipe of the glass. Click ahead to scope out the store before braving the lines.
CityTarget hosted its launch party at the Metreon last night before opening to the public on Sunday. For a "city-sized" spin-off, at 85,000 square, feet it still feels luxuriously suburban. The store touts a pharmacy, a beer- and wine-stocked grocery section, a sunny outdoor balcony with umbrella-topped tables, and a Fan Central area packed with 49ers and Giants gear. There's also an impressive wall of S.F.-appropriate tights and legwear, as well as ample seasonal aisles for stocking up on Halloween costumes and candy.
Throw on your Indian summer best and eat and drink for a good cause this Saturday at San Francisco magazine's its 8th annual Fall Fest. The outdoor event assembles 32 wineries, six mixologists, and chefs from 35 of the city's top restaurants—including award-laden foodie favorites like Anthony Strong of Locanda and Stuart Brioza of State Bird Provisions—at Justin Herman Plaza, just across from the Ferry Building. Proceeds benefit Meals on Wheels of San Francisco.
