Despite the fact that the album was originally released in 1998, Black Star has remained an incredibly influential hip-hop record. Not hard to believe, considering it’s Talib Kweli and Mos Def (now Yasiin Bey). So for the diehard underground hip-hop fan—or anyone who appreciates good music—this show is a must-see.
Saturday, 3/23, $39.50, Fox Theater, 8 p.m.
Band of Horses
The indie rock darlings are in town to woo you with their midtempo rock and lead singer Ben Bridwell’s twangy vocals. Worth seeing them up here in the intimate Fox Theater instead of part of the dusty crowds of Coachella.
Saturday, 4/13, $38.50, Fox Theater, 8 p.m.
Yo La Tengo
The New Jersey-based melodic pop/ nosie rock group— a.k.a. every music critic’s favorite band—will surely supply some chill melodies and some guitar-driven rock beats. Yes, it’s in May. But you’ve got a huge discography to review before then so you’d better get cracking.
Friday, 5/10, $39.50, The Fillmore, 9 p.m.
