Bathroom at Milliken.
Weekender: Valentine’s Day in Napa
It sounds trite, but admit it—you just might like a romantic weekend in a picturesque countryside, a short drive away.

Milliken Creek Inn
Tucked away on the three verdant acres along the Napa River, the Milliken Creek Inn & Spa feels farther from downtown than two miles. Thoughtful touches make this boutique inn feel homey and intimate: a complimentary wine and cheese hour with a guest vintner, a common living room with a fireplace to share stories over a nightcap of port, and gourmet breakfast delivered to your room. If you weren’t right on the Silverado Trail, there’d be no reason to ever leave.
For dinner, Farm restaurant at Carneros Inn offers a lively rustic modern space and refined California fare. View their special Valentine’s Day tasting menu (served only that evening) here. Hint: Ask for a table by the fireplace, or linger by the communal alfresco fire pit with a glass of sherry to cap off the evening. Bonus: This month, Carneros Inn’s Wine Country Romance Package sets you up with a stay in their intimate Harvest Cottage, which features an outdoor living space with a two-person soaking tub and an outdoor fire pit, complete with bubbly and a s’more kit, to get you through those chilly country nights.
Making your way from Milliken up the Silverado Trail, don’t miss these tasting stops: One of the Silverado Trail’s newcomers, Odette Estate (of PlumpJack group), pours all of the group’s wines on their open patio. FYI: Once the weather warms, expect drive-in movie nights with visiting food trucks and tethered hot air balloon rides. Across the street, Pine Ridge offers a tasting which represents five different appellations in the region. The 5x5 tasting takes it a step further by pairing each appellation with a gourmet sampling prepared by the winery’s chef.
In the mood for something more intimate? Splurge on a private tasting and tour for two at Vineyard 7&8, a breathtaking estate with bold wines and sweeping views of Calistoga and St. Helena. Just brace yourself for the winding drive up Spring Mountain Road.
