These five local spots celebrate Earth Day and the planet’s possibilities.

 Atlanta Botanical Garden

1. Georgia Aquarium
The Earth Day Leadership Breakfast on April 16 hosts UGA’s Dr. J. Marshall Shepherd, a leading expert in climate change; a corporate green day challenge with volunteer opportunities; and more. $100, 225 Baker St. NW 

2. Wylde Center
Eco-conscious Decatur hosts the Decatur Earth Day Festival on April 19. The streets pack with a parade, arts and crafts, live music and 40 vendors. Free, 453 Oakview Road, Decatur

3. Chattahoochee Nature Center
Take a special Earth Day canoe trip on April 19 and learn about the history of the river while you paddle past cliffs, blooming flowers, migrating birds and through backwaters. $40, 9135 Willeo Road, Roswell 

4. Atlanta Botanical Garden
On April 22, the grounds come alive with Earth at the Garden. Events vary from ladybug releases to learning about conservation programs. Free with admission, 1345 Piedmont Ave. NE

5. Defoor Centre
An Earth Day party on April 24 features organic bites, music and an eco-silent auction. $60, 1710 Defoor Ave. NW
