Sommelier Jill Carnevale picks the proper wines to ring in each season.

SUMMER
“Rosé is an obvious choice here and with reason. It’s crisp, tart, refreshing, and its wild strawberry flavors are perfect for warm summer days. I like the 2016 Domaine du Gros Nore from Bandol in Provence. It has a higher-than-required percentage of Mourvèdre grape, which gives it a bit more intensity and power—perfect for Aspen’s cool summer nights. For a summer white, I like something easy and drinkable, like the 2015 Lieu Dit Sauvignon Blanc from Santa Ynez, Calif. A hot summer day calls for refreshing citrus and clean minerality. For a summer red, the 2013 Occhipinti il Frappato is fairly light bodied with cherry flavors and spicy earthy notes.”

FALL
“My favorite time of the year for drinking wine! White burgundy is my go-to here. As it gets cooler, I like something with a bit more weight, like the 2011 Domaine Roulot Charmes, Meursault Premier Cru for its fresh acidity, with the richness of chardonnay and a backbone of minerality. A cool-climate pinot noir is a perfect choice for fall. The 2013 Andreas Fault Estate Pinot Noir from the Sonoma coast is light-bodied but still full-flavored and elegant.”

WINTER
“Clearly, something heavy and full-bodied. I love Barolo in winter, especially the Domenico Clerico Percristina 2007, with its warming flavors of anise, black pepper, dried roses, Earl Grey tea and dried orange peel with structured tannins.”

SPRING
“Riesling and gamay can wash away the winter blues. For the riesling, Weingut Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Brücke Riesling Spätlese offers notes of pineapple, Meyer lemon, green apple and a subtle sweetness on a backbone of bright acidity and rocky minerality. For a red, a Cru Beaujolais like the 2015 Yann Bertrand Fleurie Vieilles Vignes.”
