Pile It On!

Some would say that burgers are a staple food group, and we happen to agree! Stop by one of these top five spots to get your hands on one.

Jimmy’s half-pound Angus burger

1. J-Bar
Iconic Aspen hot spot the J-Bar, located inside the Hotel Jerome, is known for its “locally world famous” J-Bar Burger. Choose from toppings such as cheddar, Gruyere, American, blue or pepper jack cheese; applewood smoked bacon; caramelized onions; and mushrooms. $14-$19, depending on toppings, 330 E. Main St., 970.920.1000

2. Jimmy’s
The half-pound burger at Jimmy’s is made with lean-ground certified Angus, and it comes topped with a choice of cheddar, American, pepper jack, Gorgonzola or Swiss cheese; bacon; caramelized onions; and mushrooms. It’s served alongside fries and an upbeat atmosphere. $12.50-$17, depending on toppings and bar or restaurant dining, 205 S. Mill St., 970.925.6020

3. Little Annie’s
A local favorite for years, the basic but classic Annie’s Hamburger consists of a half pound of chopped sirloin charbroiled to your liking, served on an onion roll with a choice of toppings, such as American, Swiss, cheddar or blue cheese; bacon; and sauteed onions or mushrooms. 4. Vue Lounge at The Westin Snowmass Resort

The aptly named Mammoth Burger, a full pound of ground Angus beef, is topped with four cheeses, pork-belly bacon, Hatch green chile and French dusted onions. It comes with pickles and a basket of parmesan-parsley-garlic fries—a plate perfect for sharing (though at least one local has been known to devour one singlehandedly). $30, 100 Elbert Lane, 970.923.8200

5. White House Tavern
The cheeseburger at White House Tavern leaves nothing to be desired. Made with Allen Brothers’ fresh-ground chuck, these burgers are sandwiched between homemade buns with cabbage, smoky hickory sauce, mayo and mustard, cheddar, lettuce, tomato and pickles. The enticing presentation also doesn’t hurt. $15, 302 E. Hopkins Ave., 970.925.1007
