: Giving back to his adopted hometown through Read With Malcolm, an Atlanta-based youth literacy nonprofit that ensures every child in Georgia has a book

“During my off time, I’m going to visit as many schools as possible for RWM. We’ve put 18,000 copies of The Magician’s Hat [a children’s book by Mitchell] in at least 89 schools. It makes me smile that kids have the opportunity to pick up a book at home and choose to read. I truly believe that reading makes better athletes, since reading is like working out the mind. It gives you the ability to think and react quicker, to be a better problem-solver and to make better choices. I didn’t grow up indulging in reading, and I noticed an intellectual gap between my peers and myself [at the University of Georgia]. Once I began to grow as a reader, I saw opportunities I could have never dreamed of. My goal is to get the book into every school in Georgia to encourage reading. I’m really proud to be part of a team that faced adversity in the biggest form, as far as the game goes, and to fight back and win the Super Bowl.”
