WHEN BOTH HALVES of a couple relocate as much as actress JoAnna Garcia Swisher and her hunky retired pro-baseball player husband, Nick Swisher, they’re bound to be stars at settling into new cities. Comfortably living in a quaint Decatur enclave with their two little girls, Emerson and Sailor, she’s hoping to be here for the long haul.
What have you missed since you last lived in Atlanta?
The food is really great, and I love the Southern hospitality. Even as a big city, there’s a very hospitable vibe. Everyone’s looking out for you. We’re just really happy.
Since Nick was an Atlanta Brave, they’ve moved to SunTrust Park.
I’ve heard it’s beautiful! We will definitely get out there before the end of the season. We have good friends still there, and I’m looking forward to reconnecting.
Any favorite restaurants so far?
I’m still working my way around, but I just had dinner at The Optimist. It was spectacular! I’ve been singing its praises since. My cast is very into good food, so it’s a mission of ours to get out, explore and eat our way through this city.
Speaking of the show, it looks inspiring.
The notion of redemption, forgiveness and connecting with your family is universal. It’s an hourlong drama, but it has a lighthearted feel. Jason Ritter, our leading man, has this incredible charm. It sets a great tone for us to have very real, emotional moments almost constantly, but it will always have a bit of levity.
How many episodes can we anticipate?
I hope we will get a full season! Television is a crazy business, and a million things could happen, but our goal is to do this for many years.
