Bridal Sign Up

From Russia With Love

Old World heritage inspired the Bermans’ romantic wedding, set in The Joule Hotel.

Eugene, in a tuxedo by Kings Taylor, and Megan, wearing an Anna Maier gown, pose for a photo that captures a treasured moment.

White, pale pink and deep cranberry peonies, and roses filled the bouquet created by Kate Foley Designs.

Eugene’s boutonniere blended a colorful ranunculus and foliage with an indigo ribbon.

Cake by the Joule was a gluten-free, dark chocolate, raspberry-filled confection.

Eugene and Megan are feted with a traditional hora folk dance in The Joule Hotel’s ballroom.

Introduced by a friend in a restaurant eight years ago, Manhattan residents Megan Alires and Eugene Berman were drawn together within an hour of starting a conversation. In just a few weeks, the fashion designer and hedge fund portfolio manager were inseparable. Eugene proposed to Megan cliffside on the Amalfi Coast in May 2014. A job opportunity brought the couple to Dallas, where Eugene had grown up, just as they began wedding planning.

Eugene and his family moved stateside from the Soviet Union in the early ’90s and hold many Russian traditions dear. One of Megan and Eugene’s favorite restaurants in New York, Mari Vanna, a Russian spot with an atmosphere Megan describes as “like stepping into your babushka’s house in St. Petersburg,” provided natural inspiration for their wedding theme.

The Joule Hotel won their hearts immediately as the setting, with its rooftop terrace and floor-to-ceiling windows affording views of downtown Dallas. Propmaker Event Rentals constructed a natural birch chuppah adorned with flowers and candles, under which they said their vows—Megan in a couture Anna Maier ivory lace gown. The softly lit, mirrored ballroom, dripping with garden florals and table dressings in a palette of rich cranberry, gold, indigo and soft pinks, made for the romantic setting she envisioned. The hotel custom-created a Russian-inspired dinner menu, and colorful matryoshka doll escort cards doubled as party favors for the guests.

“I was incredibly lucky to find such talented vendors,” said Megan. “It’s hard to look back and remember every detail. But I can certainly say the advice I was given to remember the little moments and leave the other stuff to the photos was some of the best I could have received. The memories I have, I will cherish forever.” She continues, “The best moment of all was looking into my husband’s eyes for the first time after exchanging our rings.” For their honeymoon, the couple traveled to Australia to dive at the Great Barrier Reef and relax on the beaches.
