Second Chance at Love

Cathy and James celebrated not just their union as a couple, but the joining of two families.

Cathy and James leave the ceremony to Pharrell Williams’ “Happy.”

The rings were designed by Markham Fine Jewelers in Frisco.

The Four Seasons ballroom, festooned with flowers and fabric, was the setting for the love-filled celebration.

Knockout decor in the ballroom included a chandelier of cascading orchids crowned with roses against a ruched fabric ceiling background.

Navy-and-gold menu cards graced each place at the seated dinner.

Decorative frosting on the wedding cake presented before a magnificent floral display was inspired by Cathy’s Oscar de la Renta gown.

So often, love strikes when we least expect it. Cathy O’Keefe, an industrial sales specialist, had been divorced for 20 years. James Webb, an entrepreneur in the health care industry, had lost his first wife to cancer and then survived his own battle with the disease. Both Cathy and James had registered with but were about to disengage from the site. Then, a wink started an email conversation. Cyber dialogue led to phone talks and a first date both consider the best date of their lives. Over the next few months their children were introduced and the bond deepened. When the right time came, James surprised Cathy with a party at Plano’s NYLO Hotel restaurant, where he dropped to one knee and proposed, surrounded by their children and friends.

Their nuptials at the Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas, planned with the help of Jordan Payne, opened with a playful video that set the familial tone, starring Cathy and James in costume, interjected into scenes from Star Wars, Pulp Fiction and Jurassic Park, followed by a montage of photos of their families coming together. Cathy’s daughters, Kristin and Carly, and James’ daughter, Elizabeth, all in navy-blue gowns, were bridesmaids. James’ two teenage sons, Max and Joey, walked Cathy down the aisle, and his grandson, North, was the ring bearer. James’ brothers, Ronnie and Chris, both ordained ministers, officiated at the ceremony and offered the opening prayer, respectively. Glorious flowers from David Kimmel bedecked the Four Seasons ballroom, where guests enjoyed a seated dinner and a wedding cake lavishly decorated to mimic the drape of Cathy’s Oscar de la Renta gown. Music provided by personal friend and American Idol finalist Hollie Cavanagh and the Jordan Kahn Band kept the dance floor packed until late in the night.

“We really felt embraced. Our children, grandchildren and my first wife’s family were all there. It’s a true blessing to have that kind of support,” said James. The couple continued their celebration by honeymooning in Puerta Vallarta and Saint Lucia.
