Bridal Sign Up

Jessica Matos & Nirmal Nathan

February 14, 2015 | Ceremony & Reception: Westin Colonnade

For the traditional Indian ceremony, the couple wore authentic formalwear custom-made by Pothys Aalayam of Silks in India and then changed into elegant formalwear for the reception.

Honoring Nirmal’s family traditions, Jessica wore temporary mehndi designs on her hands for the ceremony.

The bridesmaids wore traditional Indian saris from Rupees, Inc. in Miami.

The Cuban bride enjoyed celebrating the couple’s unique cultures with all of their family and friends on the big day.

The historic Westin Colonnade in Coral Gables provided the perfect wedding backdrop. Nikun Events created towering centerpieces overflowing with orchids, roses and hydrangeas.

THE COUPLE
Wanting to celebrate both of their unique cultural backgrounds, Jessica Matos and Nirmal Nathan opted for an Indian fusion wedding. “We wanted to combine India’s rich culture with a Cuban flair,” says Jessica. Following a traditional Indian custom, the groom arrived at the ceremony riding atop a decorated white horse and accompanied by family members who danced alongside the processional. They even arranged to close down a street in Coral Gables to make way for the parade.

THE PARTY
Jessica and Nirmal changed attire for the reception, which featured an elegant peacock color scheme with rich hues of blue and purple. The Pepe Montes Quintet kept the crowd on their feet. “My favorite part was watching two completely different cultures come together to celebrate,” says Jessica. “The Indians danced to salsa music and the Cubans savored every bite of the tikka masala.” Guests ended the evening with a delicious almond-flavored wedding cake by local cake designer Ana Paz.

WHAT WE LEARNED
“Don’t wait until everyone has confirmed to arrange seating. Even before you know who is attending, create a spreadsheet assuming all of your invited guests will come. Then play musical chairs with your list,” says Jessica. “This way, you won’t have to wait until every last person has RSVP’d before starting to work on your seating chart.”

THE HONEYMOON

The couple set sail on a luxury cruise through the Caribbean and spent time enjoying the spa and the sea breeze from their waterfront balcony.
