Van Cleef & Arpels
From the art deco VIP salon to the handmade double-height cascading chandelier, Van Cleef & Arpels’ new digs, which opened just before the holidays, make for a glamorous shopping experience. The two-story boutique also gives the Paris institution (it started on the famous Place Vendôme in 1906) more room to showcase new creations, including the latest Snowflake collection. “Ever since we first opened our doors here, Chicago has remained a very important and dear city to the Maison,” says Helen King, president and CEO of Van Cleef & Arpels, Americas. We say, bienvenue! And let’s go shopping. 63 E. Oak St.
Peter Marino is the architect behind Chanel’s new destination boutique, but it’s a specially commissioned portrait of Coco Chanel by Gregor Hildebrandt that reigns over the chic space, which is scheduled to open on Jan. 30. Designed from the ground up, Marino’s modernist statement plays homage to the iconic heritage brand with black and white materials contrasting throughout the interior and exterior. The 8,000-square-foot space will open with the Spring 2019 Act I collection of ready-to-wear, handbags, shoes, and fine and costume jewelry, as well as fragrance and beauty. It’s a temple to all things Chanel, and we can’t wait to go and worship. 65 E. Oak St.
