Designer Sasha Adler already has a stellar track record—and now she’s ready for her next big move.

After a start in fashion working for a Paris-based magazine in New York, Sasha Adler moved back home to Chicago, where she met Nate Berkus and started working for the well-known designer and TV star. “Nate is really generous and thoughtful, and always has everyone howling with laughter,” she remembers. “It never felt like a job.” For more than a decade, Adler has been co-design director at Berkus’ West Town design firm, but this summer she took a leap, launching Sasha Adler Design.

The move isn’t strictly professional. “One of the reasons I started my own firm was to have more flexibility and the ability to tailor my schedule to [my three kids],” she explains. “It sounds like an oxymoron because I have never worked harder in my life, but I also find that I am more present and able to carve out more time with my family.”

She is also able to approach things in a different way—such as her first private aircraft project, which she recently completed. “We obsessed over every detail, from the seat belt to the contrast welt of the seat cushion. We even designed a custom logo that is subtly monogrammed on the throw blankets, linen cocktail napkins and playing cards.” Other projects currently underway are taking her to Mexico, the Hamptons, California and Puerto Rico. As for the future of Sasha Adler Design, she sees herself building her own furniture, lighting, hardware and fabric lines based on the custom pieces she frequently creates for clients. But for now she is loving that every day is different. “Starting and building a company of my own is unbelievably challenging,” she says. “Yet so exciting.”
