The Wood Family Foundation’s annual Storybook Gala brought the community together to support struggling students.
THE PARTY Former Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood and his wife, Sarah Wood, welcomed nearly 400 guests to Morgan Manufacturing for the fourth annual Storybook Gala. Benefiting the Wood Family Foundation and its Pitch In program, the Evening in Oz-themed night transported partygoers to the Emerald City with creative help from Revel Decor. THE PEOPLE Chicago native and Golden Globe Award-winning actress Bonnie Hunt acted as emcee for the evening. Chicago Cubs co-owner and chairman Tom Ricketts was on hand to help honor Wood Family Foundation board member Tony Hoban as he received this year’s Pitch In For Excellence Award. THE PINNACLE For baseball fans, the live auction proved to be a highlight of the evening, as entries included collectors’ items commemorating the 20th anniversary of Kerry Wood’s 20-strikeout game. All together, guests stepped up to the plate to raise more than $250,000, all to benefit the Wood Family Foundation’s mentorship programs in Chicago Public Schools. Current Pitch In mentees took the stage to thank everyone for their generosity and celebrate as they prepare for the transition between eighth grade and high school. -Jaclyn Jermyn
