Thespian lovers take the spotlight at the Alley Theatre’s annual black-tie ball, this year honoring longtime supporter Lynn Wyatt.
THE PARTY The Alley Theatre, by definition, is known for theatrics, and this year’s annual ball did not disappoint. More than 500 supporters made curtain call and together raised more than $1.2 million for one of the country’s most prestigious regional theaters. THE SCENE Chairs Oscar Brown and Sarah Morgan set the stage at The Post Oak Hotel, channeling the brilliance of Picasso by enlisting event designer Richard Flowers, who decked the ballroom in dramatic, oversize cubist prints and abstract, colorful floral arrangements that defied gravity. Before dinner, Alley resident actors gave soliloquy tributes to the night’s honoree, Lynn Wyatt; then, chef Jean-Luc Royere wowed the crowd with a three-course meal inspired by painter Pablo himself. THE HIGHLIGHTS Some lucky bidders snagged trips to Paris, Prague and Broadway, and Mady and Ken Kades scored a night with Elton John, who visits H-Town in December. After dessert, DJ Kydro fueled the afterparty, which kept the action rolling well until early Sunday morning. -Ray Dennison
