Patrons put on their summer whites for an Evening in the Park, sowing more than $500,000 for the Hermann Park Conservancy.
THE PARTY A stream of nature lovers poured into Hermann Park for its annual tented gala, chaired by Bonner and George Ball, Janet Gurwitch and Ron Franklin, and Dancie and Jim Ware. Waiters served blood orange margaritas under the grand statue of Texas Revolutionary War leader Sam Houston during cocktail hour. Guests then boarded Hermann Park’s iconic train for a trip up to McGovern Lake, where the main party tent awaited. THE SCENE Mayor Sylvester Turner, Hermann Park Conservancy board chair Phoebe Tudor and Conservancy President Doreen Stoller gave applauseworthy remarks during the program, and major praise went to this year’s honoree, H-E-B President Scott McClelland. THE HIGHLIGHTS After dinner, late-night dancing under the stars kept the party going, and the event planted more than $525,450 into the park’s budget for future initiatives and public works projects. -Ray Dennison
