Galas galore from Galveston to Houston had revelers rocking for Mardi Gras. On the Island, the Knights of Momus Coronation Ball was held at Hotel Galvez following the presentation of the 2014 duchesses at the Grand 1894 Opera House. On other nights, Tilman and Paige Fertitta welcomed guests for the annual UTMB-benefiting San Luis Salute, and the Tremont House hosted its annual parade-viewing party and Mardi Gras ball on the Strand. Back on the mainland, the University of St. Thomas held its annual gala on Fat Tuesday at the River Oaks Country Club.
The evening of the San Luis Salute began with a Champagne toast on the Fertittas’ yacht, and continued with a pop culture-themed party at the San Luis Resort, complete with go-go dancers and aerial bartenders. The bash at the Tremont House was also over-the-top, adopting a Pearls and Prohibition theme and featuring jazzy tunes from singer Danielle Reich and, at a raucous afterparty, the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies.
The Momus Grand Night Parade passed directly in front of the Tremont House, offering galagoers a front-row seat. Meanwhile, the University of St. Thomas raised nearly a million dollars for its scholarship foundation. –Knights of Momus photos by Rhea’s Photographic Art; San Luis Salute photos by Michelle Watson; St. Thomas photos by Daniel Ortiz; Tremont House photos by Kim Christensen
