Texture on texture is the key to a soothing kitchen or a bath of earthy sophistication.
Italkraft goes dark and burnished to signal where modernity is moving next.
“When the originally conceived layout was brought to me,” says Italkraft designer Isaac Bulnes, “it was to be a blend of white cabinetry, white marble with oak floors—nothing new—so I proposed instead an exciting dark kitchen that was stern but also brilliant, featuring black elm paneling, flush doors and cabinetry, complemented by an audacious blackened-stainless-steel island, glass-on-glass bronze-tinted wall cabinets and Pietra marble.” Bulnes believes that the glass cabinets deliver something entirely new to the market. “These glass-on-glass cabinets, to my knowledge, have not been done before,” he says. “I sketched out inner frames that are open from the side and front, with a solid back and bottom, and finally I added a bronze tint on the wrapped glass that breathes warmth and life.” The designer is quick to emphasize Italkraft’s peerless customization: “For this kitchen, Italkraft delivered world-class fit and finish, with products that were built for the first and only time. Then it was installed in an existing space—marrying intimate shopwork and flexibility with premium industrial quality.”

A statement bath is visible to the master bedroom—and the tropical skyline.
Dunagan Diverio Design Group brought the glamour to match an enviable location. “This home has one of the best views from the Venetian Islands,” says Tom Diverio, “and in order to take advantage of this, we designed the master suite in a way that every space had access to the incredible vista. The tub is positioned in front of a large frameless floor-to-ceiling piece of glass. This was done to give the illusion that there was a seamless connection between the bedroom and the bathroom while also providing a sound barrier between the two spaces. On the bathroom side of the glass, there is a hidden sheer roller that retracts from the ceiling to provide privacy to the bathroom when needed.” The designers chose a large eggshell tub from Boffi made out of solid white Corian to deliver a simple, clean look so as to not distract from the view—as well as a sleek stainless tub filler, also from Boffi. Finally, Diverio says, “The gold antique mirror and crystal chandelier add a bit of interest and contrast to an otherwise very modern and crisp bath.”

An open kitchen is enlivened by a blend of matte and glossy finishes.
When Dawn Elise Hamilton, principal of DawnElise Interiors, was tasked with designing a unit at the Paramount in Fort Lauderdale, her job was to individualize a home that already had been outfitted with kitchen cabinetry and appliances. “First we added a backsplash and chrome toe-kicks to enhance what the builder provided,” Hamilton says. “This is the second beachfront condo I have designed for a couple who enjoy warm modern spaces with lots of color.” So the designer selected Coulter adjustable-height swivel bar stools by Nuevo and reupholstered them in bold Magenta Ostrich vinyl by Sacho. Otherwise, she kept the kitchen natural and neutral. With matte walnut and white lacquer cabinetry chosen by the builder, Hamilton opted for square polished porcelain tile from Clad Tile & Stone in Fort Lauderdale, a Diamond Volakas mosaic backsplash from Akua and furnishings from Artefacto, Romo and Roche Bobois. The delicate Diffi 13-light oval pendant by Eurofase twinkles above a shiny-meets-matte kitchen that’s part turnkey and part designer inspiration.

A Jeweler’s Eye
A grayscale wetroom boasts a welcome dash of local color.
When it came time for homeowner Reuben Ezekiel to think about what the master bath of his Golden Beach home should look like, the professional jeweler relied on his own visual tastes. The result is minimalist, symmetrical and nearly monochromatic. It’s a water sanctuary that anyone would make an excuse to linger in. Ezekiel’s go-to vendor for the fixtures, toilet and MTI whirlpool tub was Allied Kitchen & Bath. Standout choices include the mirror-image showers, with chrome hardware from Graff, and the contrasting tiles from Porcelanosa (wavy white for the shower walls and a dark mosaic for the shower floor and insets). But the biggest surprise lies in the visual space between the open shower stalls: What looks like colorful tile work is actually a slim vertical window ornamented with a metal waterjet-cut screen; for this, Ezekiel sought to emulate the design of the swirling staircase at the Mondrian Hotel South Beach. Fabricated by Advanced Waterjet Solutions in Fort Lauderdale, it’s the sole decorative touch in a restrained master bath—and the only color is provided by the peek of Golden Beach itself.
