New York, NY (June 18, 2018) – More than 600 people attended the High Line’s first-ever Hat Party on June 14, 2018. The fresh new event drew inspiration from ball culture and the clubs and parties that inhabited the Meatpacking District and Chelsea.
The evening began with cocktails on the High Line at the Diller-Von Furstenberg Sundeck and in the Chelsea Market Passage. Guests were greeted with performances from cellist Melody Giron, and Kate Kay Es + Cole Ramstad Live Band. In between performances, guests were treated to sets from DJ CROSS COLOURS. The emcee for the evening was Daphne Always. The night wrapped up with a set from DJ Mia Moretti.
A panel of judges including Alan Cumming, Aki Sasamoto, Florent Morellet, Charles Renfro, NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell Silver, and Vi Vacious and Acid Betty from RuPaul's Drag Race determined which guest had the best, most raucous hat in attendance. Finalists in the contest participated in a runway show—very much like the days when the streets of West Chelsea were filled with nightclubs. Winners included Jesslyn Guntur, Josh Werber, Gigi Guerra, and PAU Studio. Special prizes were awarded, provided by L’Oreal USA, Equinox, and Tory Burch, as well as a custom takeaway designed by Shaniqwa Jarvis, and a grand prize courtesy of The Standard, High Line.
To celebrate the open and inclusive spirit of the High Line, the event welcomed artists, architects, designers, and partners from the High Line neighborhood and all over New York City. Guests enjoyed food and custom cocktails curated by The Standard, High Line from BITE New York.
Special thanks to The Standard, High Line for their Vice chair sponsorship. All proceeds from the hat party support the cultural and community offerings that make the High Line such a welcoming, vibrant space—free for all.
