The visual pyrotechnics at the Ultra Music Festival always match the ear-splitting noise decibels the EDM gathering is well known for.

“There are so many cool angles to explore, so much to see,” says Rutger Geerling, one of the senior photographers at this year’s event. “I rarely stay in one place for longer than 15 minutes.” But that was all it took for the Holland native to capture one of his most popular shots from the festival. His nameless subject was one of two dancers who took the stage during DJ Carl Cox’s set. “I just waited for the right backdrop on the LED screen behind her and a move that made her hair move in just the right way,” he says. “The fact that her face is perfectly frozen while her body is in motion is what makes the picture work.”
