Bridal Sign Up

My Old Kentucky Home

The belle of The Bert Show ties the knot with her longtime beau in an homage to the couple’s beloved home state.

Reception decor included rustic farm tables draped with eucalyptus runners.

Despite raindrops, the happy couple was all smiles on their big day.

The four-tier chocolate and amaretto cake with buttercream icing.

Artist Kathryn Hayes brought Kristin’s vision for custom watercolor invites to life.

Ranunculuses, peonies, garden roses, dusty millers and eucalyptuses made up the ivory bridal bouquet.

Manolo Blahnik satin pumps were the bride’s something blue, “because shoes!” she quips.

Just like Carrie Bradshaw, Kristin Klingshirn, co-host of Q100’s popular morning program The Bert Show, got engaged in an unfinished master closet. While renovating their Atlanta home in March 2016, Kristin’s boyfriend, Bart Mattingly, a contractor, lured her inside, saying he needed her approval on the closet floors. Suddenly, “he pulled a rope to unveil a hardwood plank that had ‘Will You Marry Me?’ painted on it,” Kristin shares. “As I turned around, he was on bended knee with a ring box in his hand.”
That romantic moment ended with a “yes,” and from there, the two Kentucky natives began planning their dream wedding weekend in Kristin’s hometown of Lexington, setting the date for April so friends and family could experience the annual live horse racing at local course Keeneland. On the day before their “I do’s,” the wedding party and out-of-town guests gathered for a spirited day at the races, complete with a giant tailgate party catered by Harry’s—the restaurant where Kristin and Bart first met. “We wanted our guests who had never been to Kentucky to experience all that our beautiful home state has to offer,” Kristin says.
The celebration continued Saturday with a sweet garden ceremony followed by a blowout bash filled with personalized touches, from a black-and-white photo booth to a bourbon tasting bar to Tommy Owen (aka The Bert Show’s DJ Willie T) performing a rap for the bride and groom. Kristin stunned in an ivory mermaid gown by Watters from Bridals by Lori and—also just like Carrie—a pair of Kentucky-blue Manolo Blahnik heels, which she later swapped for rose-gold Nikes so she could dance the night away in style. The newlyweds ended the night in downtown Lexington at a spot called Cheapside Bar & Grill, snapping a photo at the same table where they had sat together 11 years ago on their very first date.
