A Shore Thing

A wedding by the sea proves to be chic choice for couples looking to make a stylish splash on their big day.

Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort

The Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort proves to be as romantic as it is green

Is there anything more beautiful than a wedding veil floating in a balmy sea breeze? While the scenery alone is breathtaking, pros know that it’s not just about the view. “Couples choose us for many reasons, but mainly for the connection that they have with our property or they want to have with our property,” tells Elizabeth Killgallon, Associate Director of Catering & Weddings at The Cloister at Sea Island. But it’s also about their “impeccable service, which includes personalized planning, Forbes five-star hotel staff and synchronized white-glove service at the wedding dinner,” which are hallmarks of a Sea Island wedding. And while you may be at the beach, your options aren’t limited to the sand. “The Cloister at Sea Island offers a variety of settings, including intimate outdoor venues on the beach or river, and inside options, including the Cloister Chapel, historic Spanish Lounge or in one of the striking ballrooms,” which now includes the gorgeous new Mizner Ballroom. In addition to the beach, The Gasparilla Inn & Club is home to a beautiful banyan tree that makes for memorable ceremonies, while WaterColor Inn & Resort boasts a recent renovation at the hands of designer Holly Shipman. Coastal destinations are ultimately about more than the ceremony alone. “We offer event extensions such as beach bonfires, golf and fishing trips,” says Nina Dolin from WaterColor Inn & Resorts, which features world-class service only steps from the vibrant blue-green Gulf waters and sugar-white sand beaches.

“At The Gasparilla Inn & Club, guests trade their cars for golf carts, and all wedding festivities can be hosted on the property,” tells Sharon Cross, director of catering and conference services. And at Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort, The Sprouting Project—one of the resort’s recent additions—ensures the freshest ingredients are incorporated into wedding meals, from rich honey dripping down the comb to basil from chef Daven Wardynski’s aquaponic greenhouse. The next wave in weddings, indeed!
