Modern Love

Sara & William | November 5, 2016 | Los Cabos, Mexico

Lace-covered tables were dotted with centerpieces featuring garden roses, peonies, ranunculuses, succulents, tulips and zinnias.

The ceremony took place on a grassy bluff overlooking the Sea of Cortez.

The newlyweds walked hand in hand as they left the ceremony.

Agua frescas were on offer before the ceremony, and micheladas and a pineapple and mint refresher were served at the reception.

A mariachi band entertained guests.

Both Sara Brooks and William Fisher swore this was their last Tinder date. “We were both so let down and exhausted by online dating and the inevitable disappointment that would follow,” explains Sara, who owns Covet PR, a national public relations firm. Fortunately for both, their first date went so well in July 2014 that they were able to retire the app. “Our dates were only about two to three days apart because we immediately felt a very strong connection,” recalls Sara.

After brunch one morning in the fall of 2015, Will suggested they take a walk to a nearby park with fantastic views of San Diego. “When we got to the top of the hill, he asked a girl lying down in the grass to take a picture of us, which was sign No. 1 something was coming,” says Sara. “Then he took a ring box out of his backpack, got down on one knee, said something beautiful, and I said, ‘yes.’”

The couple liked the idea of a destination wedding and was determined to make it feasible for their friends and family—100 of whom attended. “We wanted it to be that much more special for them, but not so far that it would severely limit our guest list,” Sara explains. Los Cabos was the perfect choice, not only because of its proximity to San Diego, but also because it combined Will’s love of the ocean with Sara’s love of the desert.

In an effort to create an authentic Cabo experience, the couple provided paletas and agua frescas ahead of the ceremony, handpainted maracas at each seat, a late-night churro cart and a heart-shaped piñata filled with Mexican candies. “We were so appreciative that guests were traveling to another country to celebrate with us, that we wanted to have special touches throughout the weekend that truly made it feel like a vacation,” explains Sara. Mission accomplished.
