Bridal Sign Up

Through the Grapevine

After a seven-year courtship, Nathalie Walton and Max Carter-Obsterone made forever official at the Fairmont Sonoma Golf Club.

The newlyweds shared a kiss in front of their ride to and from the wedding—a vintage Rolls-Royce.

The bride’s self-penned escort cards.

Nathalie and her bridesmaids toasted to the big day.

Nathalie took calligraphy lessons to nab the perfect font for her invitation suite.

The groom chose a navy-blue Burberry suit to coordinate with the wedding’s color scheme.

“My florists, Camille and Heather from Venn Floral, were magicians,” says Nathalie of her centerpieces. “I especially loved how they were able to pull in blue hydrangeas to accent my color scheme.”

They say love is all about timing, and for Nathalie Walton, a business developer at Google, and Max Carter-Obsterone, a lawyer, an initial meeting during their senior year at Georgetown University left much to be desired. It wasn’t until a year later that sparks flew at Max’s 23rd birthday party. Seven sweet years later, an idyllic proposal at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in Alberta, Canada, arrived on Nathalie’s 30th birthday.

Having since headed West to San Francisco, the lovebirds knew their big day would nod to the state’s storied vineyards. “I wanted guests to experience the Sonoma wine country that my husband and I adore,” notes Nathalie of their choice to wed at the Fairmont Sonoma Golf Club.

And so, on a crisp day in September, Nathalie, clad in an ethereal Pnina Tornai gown, and Max, decked out in Burberry’s finest, said their “I do’s” with an outdoor celebration full of personal touches. “My husband and I are anything but traditional.” says the bride. “For us, this meant jumping over a broom after the ceremony, sequin tablecloths during cocktail hour, and costumes and props for our dance party.” Nathalie even sewed 550 feet of blue draping for the backdrop used during their nuptials.

Guests were treated to a choice of pan-seared sea bass or filet mignon during the elegant dinner hour before digging in to pistachio-, raspberry- and Champagne-tiered cake frosted in light-blue buttercream. And for a thrilling start to their marriage, the duo headed to the Aeolian Islands off the coast of Sicily for their honeymoon. Now, that’s amore.
