Gilded Glamour

After a romantic meeting in Italy, this couple brings their love to Chicago for a spectacular wedding.

Angela wore an Ines Di Santo gown and Maria Elena Headpieces veil for the ceremony (she changed into a Legends by Romona Keveza ballgown for the reception), and Orazio put an elegant spin on the classic tuxedo.

Orazio and his groomsmen wore bespoke tuxedos commissioned in Italy and Swarovski-crystal brooches in lieu of boutonnieres.

Angela wanted an Old World look with a modern twist, which she achieved with gold candelabras and vases, and Swarovski chandeliers.

While vacationing in her father’s hometown of Calabria, Italy, wedding planner Angela Santoro met her cousin’s friend Orazio Castelli at a concert in the piazza one night, and sparks flew.

After Orazio proposed at Angela’s family’s restaurant in Tinley Park in front of a crowd of loved ones, Angela put her professional skills to work, pulling together her dream wedding in six months. She stunned her guests in an Ines Di Santo gown as she walked down the aisle of The Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii church, where she and Orazio exchanged vows in a ceremony spoken in both English and Italian. A reception followed in the ornate Grand Ballroom of the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile, which complemented the couple’s vision of gold and black decor that was “Old World with a modern twist.” “I am obsessed with the Baroque and Renaissance era,” Angela says.

The couple also brought European flair to their reception, having the Don Cagen Orchestra play sets between each dinner course (seven courses total!). “Every guest was on the dance floor all night, from my 3-year-old niece to my 85-year-old grandma,” Angela says, who adds that her guests were so engaged because the couple had sent out a card before the wedding requesting that no one post to social media throughout the entire wedding day. “It was the best decision we made,” she says. “Everyone was fully present with us, and we posted a few days later once we were able to send photos to family overseas.” The celebration will continue for the couple with a two-month honeymoon this summer in Italy, which will also include a reception with the groom’s family.
