Shana Barhamand & Zack Light

December 31, 2016 | Adler Planetarium

Shana’s Berta gown was a total showstopper.

Shana and Zack’s pup got into the spirit with a flower collar.

The gold in the couple’s classic wedding bands (and Shana’s stunning emerald-cut engagement ring) carried through to the invitations by Lauren DeVane.

Shana’s nephew and niece (in a Pippa & Julie dress) charmed their way down the aisle.

HMR Designs used candles in towering glass votives to create a starry night within the venue.

THE COUPLE Shana Barhamand and Zack Light felt as if they had each scored a touchdown when their paths first crossed at a rival football game, where, as college seniors, she was cheering on Purdue and he was rooting for Indiana University. And despite their split allegiances, this duo found love. To mark their engagement, Zack gave Shana a photo from the day they met with an engagement ring strategically photoshopped onto her finger.
THE DETAILS In this couple’s opinion, no place was more special than the city’s Adler Planetarium for its expansive views of Chicago’s skyline and fireworks. The aisle was awash in candlelight as Shana made her way to her groom wearing a spectacular Berta gown and a veil made by her grandmother. The ceremony was truly a family affair: Shana’s brother officiated the ceremony and Zack’s cousin sang an incredible rendition of “This Must Be the Place” by the Talking Heads.
THE PARTY Just when guests couldn’t imagine being more dazzled by this couple, dessert was served. Instead of cake, there was a doughnut buffet as far as the eye could see, with flavors ranging from peanut butter banana to cinnamon-sugar cake. Soon after the clock struck midnight in the wee hours of 2017, Shana looked elegant as she waved to her guests in a Pologeorgis fur coat (a thoughtful gift from her co-workers), and the couple said their goodbyes to friends and family before a honeymoon in Belize. “We couldn’t imagine a better night of the year to have celebrated our wedding,” Shana says.
