Pitch Perfect

Fort Worth Wedding | Carlson & Isom | April 29, 2017

Carlson’s Christian Siriano tulle skirt brushed the stairs as the bride made a grand entrance.

Delicate details such as the bride’s veil, embellished clutch, wedding rings and a variety of florals were the heart of this elegant celebration.

Carlson’s strappy Valentinos were the perfect combination of sweet and glamorous.

Scream actress Carlson Young weds Foster the People’s Isom Innis to the tune of a harmoniously elegant—and endlessly cool—weekend in Fort Worth.

“It felt like a dream,” actress Carlson Young says of the day she married her “favorite person in the world,” Isom Innis, a touring band member of Grammy-nominated Foster the People. That she would step off a plane from Los Angeles into her own nuptial weekend reverie in Texas was no mistake—it was exactly what her mother, Susan, and Fort Worth-based wedding planner Melanie Tatum had envisioned.

With a hectic filming schedule and limited time to plan, Carlson curated a Pinterest board, then let her mother and family friend Melanie handle every detail. “I didn’t know what to expect—I didn’t even know what color the flowers were going to be,” Carlson says, just hours after returning from her weeklong Greek honeymoon with Isom.

No matter—Melanie and Susan orchestrated a magical event, which began with an elegant, white-tablecloth rehearsal dinner in the Los Portales gardens at Fort Worth institution Joe T. Garcia’s, to which Carlson wore a dress custom made by Dallas designer Nardos Imam. “I couldn’t leave the afterparty—we were having too much fun,” Carlson says. “We had all our friends from L.A. come in, friends from home—it was just the greatest group of people.”

Carlson’s laid-back spirit was even more apparent on her wedding day. After two of her favorite L.A. stylists gave her a baby’s breath-bedecked fishtail braid and ethereal makeup, the genuine, humble, sweet actress stepped into the couture Christian Siriano gown he designed especially for her—complete with a tulle skirt and custom French lace appliques—grabbed her stephanotis bouquet and was off to the ceremony at her childhood sanctuary, Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church. “I was really trying not to ball my eyes out,” she says of when she walked the aisle and saw Isom.

Post-ceremony, the couple hopped onto their own private bus to the 400-guest reception at River Crest Country Club, where Melanie had erected real hedge walls and framed doors with fresh greenery. Rusty Glenn embellished her work with more than 20,000 imported roses, and filled rooms with a plethora of coral peonies, white lilies and hydrangeas. The beautifully classic theme intertwined shades of pinks, ice blues, greens, glossy whites and golds. “We were in shock because it was more beautiful than anything we could have imagined,” Carlson says.

The five-tier cake, dressed with pink and white sugar flowers, was surrounded by dangling rose petals, and a quartet of floral halos hung over the white dance floor, which covered the upstairs ballroom wall to wall. It set the stage for the evening’s main highlight: the music. The Beatles tribute band Abbey Road was flown in from L.A., and a host of other musicians, including—of course—Foster the People, joined in performances.

“At the end of the night, Foster the People got up with the Beatles guys and sang three songs—then my dad, a musician, got on stage along with my brother and Isom’s dad,” Carlson says. “They all had a big jam session to ‘Hey Jude.’” It was the perfect note on which to wrap up a dreamy weekend.
