Stacy Fitzgerald was at a Big Sean concert when she spotted a handsome bartender. She decided to introduce herself to him—and the rest is history. Five years later, Zach Potts was proposing in front of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree before swooping her off to The Plaza Hotel to have a round of celebratory Champagne with friends. They chose to exchange “I do’s” in the fall at the Trinity River Audubon Center. They fell in love with the modern architecture set against the green, built-in background and used the landscape as their natural decor. In fact, aside from the bouquets and a few flowers tied to chairs, they didn’t bring in outside florals for the ceremony. The couple’s only other must-have was the music. They sat down with Astounding Sounds and The Motion Band, and handpicked each song to create the vibe they wanted for the wedding—no typical wedding music for these two!

2. Sarah Thompson & William Thomas Shannon | October 22, 2016 | Ceremony: Park Cities Baptist Church; Reception: Brook Hollow Golf Club | Photography by Gary Donihoo at f8studio

This couple has history—Sarah Thompson’s and William Thomas Shannon’s grandparents were friends, and their parents grew up alongside each other. They themselves spent time together as kids at Little Sandy Hunting & Fishing Club in Hawkins, Texas. They reconnected as adults in the summer of 2013 at a wedding that took place at Park Cities Baptist Church, followed by a reception at Brook Hollow Golf Club—just as theirs eventually did. If their outdoor wedding and childhood camp doesn’t tell you this couple loves the outdoors, just listen to their proposal story: “William popped the question on a day he knew we would get to see all of our family—Thanksgiving,” shares the bride. “We were out at one of his family member’s ranches and I was lured onto a walk to go see a dead rattlesnake. I was fixated on the snake and then turned around to see William on one knee—talk about catching me by surprise!” These two wanted nothing more than a wedding in the woods and told their florist, The Garden Gate, to create a “garden party” feel with cascading white blooms and plenty of greens. They also decided to take their chances on the outdoor reception, telling Lee Logan Events that it was all outdoors or all indoors—no tents here! They got the “under the stars” reception and dance floor they were dreaming of when the weather cooperated. After they took their last twirl on the dance floor (to tunes by Party on the Moon), the pair zoomed off in a green (of course!) Oldsmobile convertible.

3. Hayley Beindorff & Nathan Mann | November 13, 2016 | Ceremony: The Brooks at Weatherford Photography by Matt & Julie Weddings

When Hayley Beindorff’s TCU sorority sisters took her to a house party, she had no idea that one of the hosts would be her future husband. But at first meeting, she and Nathan clicked and couldn’t stop talking, and they’ve been together ever since. This groom proposed to his college sweetheart above downtown Fort Worth, when he stole her away from both of their families on Thanksgiving weekend under the guise of an early Christmas surprise. Unsuspecting Hayley found herself on a helicopter tour of their city thinking, “This is so romantic, it would be the perfect time to propose... too bad he doesn’t have a ring.” But Nathan was prepared, and she said yes! The couple wanted all their out-of-town guests to have a true Texan experience, making The Brooks, a 21-acre farm just outside historic Weatherford, Texas, the perfect background. They got married, she in a sparkly dress by Essence of Australia—under the 18-foot steeple of the country chapel. Hayley wanted everything to look very natural, with lots of deep green among white and cream flowers. Sweet touches made things personal, such the groom’s grandmother playing Debussy’s “Clair de Lune” during the ceremony as an homage to Hayley’s late grandparents, who were married to the same song.
